Honolulu HI – Experienced, award-winning actor and director Donna Blanchard will teach an acting class geared for actors with experience on two consecutive Tuesdays in November.
“There are generally several opportunities for newer actors to learn our trade each year, so I designed this class for continued education” says Ms Blanchard. “Because we believe in supporting the artistic advancement of those in the O`ahu acting pool, we’re keeping the price low. To especially benefit actors in our downtown Honolulu pool, we’re offering ½ price tuition for actors who have been involved in productions at Kumu Kahua Theatre and The ARTS at Marks Garage over the last 12 months.”
Monologue: Intent and Manifestation.
What we say and how we say it is influenced by what we are thinking and feeling, and not necessarily saying. The actor’s job is to sleuth and decipher what lies beneath and thereby should color every line we speak and movement we make, and how those thoughts would manifest themselves given the character, relationship to that character’s audience, and scenario.
For two intensive nights, Donna Blanchard will work with students on the story beneath monologues. Students may bring approximately 250 words of their own monologue* to work on, or they will be assigned a piece. This 2-day class will be followed by 2-person scene work class later in the season.
Students must have some stage acting and/or stage education experience to attend.
The cost for this 2-night class is:
$40 for general admission
$20 for those who have participated in a production at Kumu Kahua Theatre or The ARTS at Marks Garage within the last 12 months
$25 observation-only admission for both nights
*Actors who wish to work on a monologue from a show currently in rehearsal or production must show written approval of participation from their production director.
