Fresh off its wildly successful 50th anniversary season, Manoa Valley Theatre kicks off its 51st season Anniversary with a play season that blends exciting Hawaii premieres with Hawaii favorites. This season also marks the beginning of a new era with Kip Wilborn taking the helm as Executive Artistic Director.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to lead Manoa Valley Theatre into its next 50 years,” shared Kip Wilborn. “MVT has a great legacy as Hawaii’s “Off-Broadway” playhouse, producing progressive theatre that both challenges and entertains its audience. I look forward to embracing and building upon this legacy by expanding MVT’s presence in our community through education and community partnerships.

First up in the season is ‘Sylvia,’ a clever romantic comedy by A.R. Gurney that runs September 19 – October 6 and tells the story of a middle-aged man, his wife, and a street-smart stray dog he brings into their lives become a clever and challenged romantic triangle which is both hilarious and touching.

Guest Director is Stephanie Conching. Assistant Director is Veronica Vera. Set design is by MJ Matsushita. Lighting design is by Rachel Sorenson. Master Electrician is Jonah Bobilin. Co-costume design is by Jennifer Hart and Trudy Hodnefield. Props design is by Sara Ward. Hair and make-up design by Lisa Ponce de Leon. Sound design is by Jason Taglianetti. The stage manager is Erich Steinwandt-Gudoy. Performing in the show are Stu Hirayama as Tom, Phyllis and Leslie, Christine Lamborn as Sylvia, Cindy Shea as Kate, and Peter Togawa as Greg.

The production will run September 19 – October 6. Show times are Wed. 7:30 p.m., Thur. 7:30 p.m., Fri. 8 p.m., Sat. 8 p.m., and Sun. 4 p.m. Tickets are $40. Seniors and military are admitted for $35, youth 25 years old and younger are $22.  Minimum age is 13. Call 988-6131 or purchase tickets online at manoavalleytheatre.com. The doors will open for seating one hour prior to each performance. Beverages will be available for purchase on site. No outside food or drinks are allowed. The play is performed in two acts with one intermission.
