‘Ohana Arts stages Broadway hits INTO THE WOODS and SPRING AWAKENING

HONOLULU – ‘Ohana Arts’ Performing Arts Festival and School brings Broadway to Mānoa with two musical productions – Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” and the rock musical “Spring Awakening.”

“Into the Woods” weaves together the plots of several well-known fairy tales, including Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzel, exploring the consequences of its characters’ actions and wishes.

The ‘Ohana Arts’ production features a cast of 18 talented high school (middle school too?) youngsters from Hawai‘i and the mainland, whose performances are the culmination of the ‘Ohana Arts summer program.

“Into the Woods” plays on Friday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday July 28 at 11:00 a.m., and Sunday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m.

“Spring Awakening” is a cautionary tale about teenagers discovering and grappling with the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality. This production contains explicit language and explores themes of child abuse and suicide -- and is not appropriate for young children.

“Spring Awakening” plays on Saturday, July 28 at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for both shows are $25, $29, and $15 general admission, and $10 for students. Tickets are available online at ohanaarts.org or by calling (866) 633-0430.
