Audition process

  1. Fill out an audition form and get your picture taken. No resumes or headshots, please.

  2. We’ll do a quick warm-up with some theatre games. These are fun tension breakers but also an important part of the audition process. We’re looking to see how well you listen and follow directions, among other things.

  3. The rest of auditions will be “lukewarm” readings from the sides. Pick something and prepare (with partners if appropriate). We’ll call people in the order that they let us know they’re ready.

  4. You can leave any time after you’ve read, or stick around and read again. We’d like everyone to read once before we read anyone twice. If you have to leave early, please let us know before you go, and definitely let us know if you’re not available for callbacks.

Casting

You’re auditioning for all three plays, regardless of what you read. If you’re only interested in one play (or a particular part in one play), indicate that on your audition form.

Note that The Tempest will rehearse at the Hawaii Opera Theatre in town, and Macbeth will rehearse at Windward Community College. Much Ado About Nothing will rehearse outdoors at Hawaiian Mission Houses Museum.

Advice

Make sure you understand who you are, what you’re saying and why you’re saying it. If you’re not sure, ask (no shame). We’ll immediately have you read again with an adjustment but the first time through is all you. Make a strong choice. Have fun. Need more detailed advice?

Rehearsal schedule

Rehearsals vary by director but plan for 15-20 hours per week once full rehearsals begin, typically evenings from 6pm to 9:30pm but possibly Saturday or Sunday afternoons as well.

Venue

The Tempest and Macbeth will perform at The ARTS at Marks Garage – an intimate venue configured for deep thrust with seating for approximately 80. Much Ado About Nothing will perform under the stars at Hawaiian Mission Houses Museum.

Out of town auditions

All auditions are held on Oahu. All acting positions are unpaid. If you're interested in auditioning anyway - if you’re a returning student, or have family on the islands, or just want to spend summer in Hawaii on your own nickel - contact me about a video audition.

For more info, contact Tony Pisculli at 808.256.6657.
