Auditions: "we, the invisibles" Sun and Mon June 2 and  3,  6-9pm

Written by Susan Soon He Stanton

Directed by Kevin Keaveney

The production runs July 26 - Aug 4 at HPU Windward Campus Paul and Vi Loo Theater.  Actors will need availability through Aug.11 for possible extension. Rehearsals will likely be 4 or 5x/week, at 171-A Hamakua Dr.

Auditions will take place at 171-A Hamakua Dr. in Kailua on Sunday June 2 and Monday June 3, from 6 - 9 pm. Auditioners need not attend both days.

Auditions will consist of readings from sides and some limited improvisation. Each actor cast will be playing many different roles.

We are looking for fearless actors! Ability to create many distinct characters through voice and physicality will be essential as will a facility with different accents. Accuracy is less important than commitment; the willingness to fail spectacularly will be more valued than "comfort zone" timidity. Be prepared to move. Cast size will be a minimum of 6, but will ultimately be determined by the talent that shows up.

Ethnic diversity amongst the cast is also required. Two roles are specifically for an African-American man and woman, the rest of the roles encompass a multitude of ethnicities.

About the Play:

Susan is a playwright working a survival job at a luxury hotel. Stirred by a controversial case in which a West African maid’s accusation against a powerful man is dismissed, she starts interviewing her fellow employees who have come to America from all over the world. She feels compelled to give voice to other hotel workers’ rarely heard stories—but as her investigation deepens, this documentary project becomes an unexpectedly personal journey. Funny, poignant, and brutally honest, "we, the invisibles" explores the complicated relationship between the movers and shakers and the people who change their sheets.
